Who Are You Letting Past The Entryway?

This past Sunday, Pastor Joey Cook shared a powerful message titled “Friends in the House.” Using the rooms of a home as an illustration, he invited us to consider the different levels of access we allow people to have in our lives- and what true, godly friendship looks like.
The Rooms of Friendship
Pastor Joey compared friendship to the rooms of a house:
Front Porch – You recognize their face, but your connection is surface level.
Entryway – You know a few facts about them: where they’re from, what they do, maybe a hobby or two.
Living Room – Here you begin to share feelings. These are the friends you laugh with, cry with, and have meaningful conversations with.
Kitchen Fridge – These friends know your fears. They have access to the deeper, more vulnerable parts of your life.
Master Bathroom – The most personal and unfiltered space. These are the friends who know your faith—who see the real, unpolished version of you and walk alongside you spiritually.
Healthy Boundaries, Deeper Friendships
Not everyone is meant to have access to every room in your house. Healthy boundaries matter. But Pastor Joey reminded us that godly friendships don’t stay on the surface, they move beyond facts and feelings into the deeper places of fears and faith.
A Takeaway for All of Us
As a church family, we were challenged to ask: Who have I been keeping in the entryway of my life? Who are the people I’ve let into the deeper rooms of my life? Do I have real, honest friendships that draw me closer to Christ?
Jesus modeled deep, intentional friendships, and He calls us to the same. True kingdom friends are not just people who know our story, they’re people who strengthen our faith.
Questions to reflect on this week:
Who are the friends in your life that you’ve welcomed past the “front porch”?
Do you have relationships that know your fears and encourage your faith?
How might God be leading you to cultivate deeper, Christ-centered friendships this week?
This week's post is inspired by Joey Cook's sermon on 9/14/2025.
